DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Heiltje by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Heiltje:
I did some research on the Pretorius websites, and have found that there are two Heyltje or Hilletjie de Beer females married to the two brothers - Gerhardus Petrus and Johannes Lodewyk Pretorius. But they were two different girls from two different families. I have done some clearing up and I hope that we will get it sorted and cleared. Thank you for bringing up the problem.
Ill have to come back to this issue at a later date. I adopted the profile from Judy and at the moment are not able to do the appropriate research. Trevor Harris wrote (20 September 2014):
Johannes Lodewyk Pretorius These are the two brothers married to the same woman:-Hyltje de Beer Johannes married her 1763 and according to reckoning produced 6 children Gerhardus married her in 1766 and another 6 children were attributed to them If you can remember I proposed a merger of the two Hyltjes but later realised the confusion. Could you kindly have a look and any suggestions and assistance would be appreciated. Regards Trevor Harris
This merge was initiated by myself and I thank Philip van der Walt for the action taken, however on checking all data and info available I see that a brother of Johannes L Pretorius was also married to the same person, different names and birth dates both died in the same year. Marriage dates are 3 years apart and a lot of children were born ?
Could it be that there are two different persons being confused here into one profile. The are two distinct dates of baptism here, 4 years apart. In many cases when an infant died young the name or a variation thereof would go over to the next born child. I suspect that this might be the case here.
Regards, Mary
